Chicago Air and Water Show
Summers in Chicago. They’re hot, festive, and so worth the frigid winter wait. From neighborhood parties, restaurant patios, sunbathing on the beach, and music festivals, summertime Chi is one hell of a time. Chicago’s Air and Water Show is one of my favorite late summer activities here in the city. I grew up going to my local airshow and also flying RC planes with my dad (fun fact!) so this show makes me feel pretty nostalgic. I do harbor a bit of guilt for living for these jet planes because of environmental impacts but, after some research, found out that these airshows are really a small drop in the swimming pool of carbon emissions when compared to air travel (plus the government doesn’t release fuel reports for their aircrafts). With that, I’m going to enjoy some loud ass planes.
For Saturday’s show, I was invited to a party held aboard the Anita Dee yacht (I definitely giggled at the boat’s name) where we enjoyed food, drinks, and music. While we couldn’t see the water portion of the show, the weather was impeccable, the water gorgeous, and the company lovely. Fat Albert, the Blue Angels support plane, and the Blue Angels were the obvious highlight of the day. They fly SO CLOSE to each other; it’s so wild to see.
Final thoughts: Chicago’s Air and Water Show is a great way to wrap up summer, make sure you have ear plugs!
What I wore
For this event I went for a nautical chic look.
Above the knee sheath dress printed with a pink cherry blossom motif that really popped against the navy blue. The exposed zipper pockets are my favorite part of this dress. -Found at Ragstock Lakeview, Chicago
Cotton, white long sleeved duster. It has this cute flower pattern embroidered into the sleeves. I wore the cuffs tucked up to my elbows to give the illusion of short, bubble sleeves -Found at Crossroads Lincoln Park, Chicago
Nude, block heeled sandals -Kelly and Katie
